NC State has employees working in over 30 states and state income tax is withheld based on the state the employee is working in, not the state the employer is located in. Therefore, it is imperative that the Payroll Office be notified when

• You hire an employee that will be working in another state
• A current employee moves to another state but will still be working for NC State
• An employee moves to North Carolina from another state where they have been working for NC State
